Study Shows Hurricane Floyd Boosted Abuse and Non-Abuse Brain Injuries in Children (May 1)

Hurricane Floyd, which drowned much of 16 eastern North Carolina counties under a layer of water in 1999, also significantly boosted the number of cases of both inflicted and non-inflicted brain injury among small children, a new study shows.

Males and Females Respond Differently to Brain Injury (May 11)

Researchers at Children?s Hospital of Pittsburgh have found that males and females respond differently to brain injury and therefore, boys with brain injuries may require different life-saving treatments than girls.

First Evidence That Brain Damage at Birth Can Be Reversed (May 17)

Studies at UCL, Bristol and other research centres around the world have shown that cooling the newborn brain by several degrees is highly effective in protecting brain cells if shortage of oxygen occurs during the birthing process.

New Research Reveals Head Injury in Children has Lasting Impact (May 24)

New research from the University of Warwick reveals that children with even mild head injury may be at risk of long-term complications, including personality changes, emotional, behavioural and learning problems.

New research studies currently recruiting patients:

Idaho State University is recruiting people who have had traumatic brain injuries. A new research project is aimed at understanding more about the needs of these individuals. Officials are interested in anyone with a brain injury, or someone who is a care giver to someone with this type of injury.
