Dancing with Stars
Centre for Neuro Skills Brain Injury Patient Featured on Dancing with the Stars
Tune in to see the life affirming story about a dancer's successful journey through postacute brain injury rehabilitation.
Tuesday, May 1, 9pm/8pm Central on ABC
Richard "Steelo" Vazquez was working as a professional dancer on the ABC reality program Dancing with the Stars when he suffered a brain aneurysm on June 19, 2011. His ongoing postacute recovery includes daily therapy sessions at Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) where he receives intensive, patient-centered brain injury rehabilitation. CNS therapists, working with Steelo, built programs and treatment courses specific to what motivates and challenges him to his fullest potential. Incorporating Steelo’s love for dance in his treatment courses has been instrumental in his significant progress. Steelo’s story of recovery will be featured in a segment during Tuesday's episode of DWTS that will also include an interview with CNS’ Los Angeles Director of Rehabilitation, Dr. Nicole Andreatta. With the dedication of his therapists and the love and support from his family and friends, Steelo continues his recovery at Centre for Neuro Skills.
Dr. Andreatta, Psy.D, LMFT, CBIS commented:
“Steelo’s passion for life, family and dancing has made a major impact on his recovery and he is truly inspiring to all of us that work with him.”
