NEW RESEARCH ARTICLES ON THE WEB SITE

1. Study Identifies New Protein on Neurons That May be Useful as Growth Factor

Researchers have identified an immune molecule (CD40) on the surface of neurons that appears to
promote both neuron development and protection.

Read the full article at:
http://www.neuroskills.com/pr-cd40.shtml

2. Memory Loss After Brain Injury Worse When Specific Gene Present

A gene implicated in Alzheimer's disease makes it harder for the brain to recover memory functions
after brain injury.

Read the full article at:
http://www.neuroskills.com/pr-alzgene.shtml

3. Researchers Link Patients' Anger and Aggression to Brain Injury

The anger and irritability brain injury patients exhibit may have more to do with an injury to the
brain during the stroke than it does post-injury depression.

CONTINUING EDUCATION COURSE

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI): Identification, Assessment and Treatment

This course reviews literature pertaining to post-concussion syndrome as a diagnostic entity,
tracing its origins back to the 1800's. The participants are provided with a working definition of
post-concussion syndrome and introduced to the terminology "mild traumatic brain injury" (MTBI) as
recommended by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. The course reviews the
neuroanatomical and neurophysiological ramifications of MTBI. Factors having an impact on the
outcome of MTBI are identified. The treatment of MTBI is reviewed from the perspective of medical
and pharmacological coordination, psychological intervention, vestibular dysfunction,
cognitive/communicative intervention, cardiovascular endurance intervention, vision therapy, and
vocational rehabilitation.

This course (02.00-02C-07-99-73) is certified for 2.0 Continuing Education Units.
