Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) recently welcomed students from the Kern High School District’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) to its Bakersfield clinic as part of a community partnership focused on healthcare career exploration and workforce development.
Students in grades 11 and 12 spent the day learning about neurorehabilitation, touring the Bakersfield clinic, and gaining exposure to how interdisciplinary teams support individuals recovering from traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke. The visit offered students a real-world look at clinical environments while showing a variety of career paths in the healthcare field.
The visit is part of a broader collaboration between CNS and CTEC, a career and technical training institution that offers programs and courses to those interested in developing their job skills. CTEC emphasizes work-based learning across multiple industries and prepares students for both college and career success.
Within CTEC’s Health Sciences pathway, students are introduced to careers such as Medical Assisting, Nursing Assisting, Sports Medicine, and other health-related professions. CNS provides exposure to specialized rehabilitation services, helping students understand the education, skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration required in neurological care.
CNS leaders and clinicians shared their professional journeys, discussed daily responsibilities, and answered student questions about working in healthcare and rehabilitation. Panel participants included:
The diverse panel gave students insight into the many career paths available within neurorehabilitation, from clinical and leadership roles to human resources and residential services.
“This partnership gives us a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impression on motivated learners who are exploring healthcare careers,” said Laura Bennett, Associate Vice President of Human Resources at CNS, who coordinated the partnership. “We’re proud to support students interested in Health Sciences and hope experiences like this help plant seeds for future CNS employees and healthcare professionals.”
Community partnerships like this reflect Centre for Neuro Skills’ commitment to education, mentorship, and workforce development. By engaging students early through programs such as CTEC, CNS aims to raise awareness of meaningful career opportunities and help prepare the next generation of professionals dedicated to improving lives.
